Keshwin,

Heather Tarr will have to give her up her lecture and tutvenues in H-block after next
week, since H-block is being refurbished. We have been told that H-block will be
refurbished from that specific day onwards. Her lecture venues in F-block Mon J1 (who
unlocks?, Chalk Board jammed, no microphone, no ohp, no screen),
Tue L16 (Filthy, with broken seats),Wednesday J1,  Fridays J5(no OHP, no screen, no
microphone), Friday 6th period. These venues will just have to do I suppose.

She initially had L14 and L15 on thursdays Periods 3-6.  These venues are totally
uacceptable for 62 students doing a Mathematics tut. We just Have to find her two
suitable flat venues since she has two tutgroups. What about the flat venues in
E-block? Is there nothing in Govan Mbeki?

Regards, andrée

Dear Colleagues,

In 2005 we had two Academic Coordinators: Paran Pillay on the Westville Campus and Sunil Maharaj on the Howard College Campus. Academic Coordinators organize the everyday operation of the School on each campus so that I can attend meetings, fill forms and write letters of complaint  (which is now termed providing academic leadership). Without Academic Coordinators our work (and mine in particular) in Durban centre would be impossible. I am very grateful to them and it was with regret that I received information that Paran Pillay would become the Assistant Dean on Westville; also Sunil indicated that he intended to take sabbatical leave in the second half of 2006 and thus he too would not be available to carry on.

After consultation with staff members of respective campuses I asked Andree Henning to take over as the Academic Coordinator on Westville and Selvan Moopanar to do the job on Howard College. Andree has been doing a sterling job in  very difficult circumstances on Westville and Selvan,  together with Sunil, keep our Engineering operations in  perfect order.

However, the HR rules require these appointments to be endorsed by the School. I will present a
formal motion at the next School Board but, as I would like the School to run smoothly, I would like
to know whether there are any objections to these nominations.

Best regards

Jacek
